Further Reflection, Discussion, and Application
- The Proverbs frequently contrast wisdom and foolishness – can you think of examples that stand out to you? Is this the same as the contrast between doing what is right and doing what is wrong? Why or why not?
- On the specific issue of sexual sin (which is a particular area of the broader contrast mentioned above) see Proverbs chapters 5-7 and also 2:16-22; 22:14; 23:27,28; 29:3; 30:20; 31:3. Why is this such a big deal in the Proverbs?
- How big of an issue is sexual sin in our culture? In the church?
- From what the Proverbs say about sexual sin, what surprises you most? What challenges you most?
- Where (with whom) do you share honestly about your thoughts, heart and actions in relation to sexual purity? What role does accountability play in your life? What are the limits of accountability? (Remember that the ultimate goal is not just the management of external behaviors but the change of our hearts toward wisdom and righteousness.)
- Sunday’s message mentioned a number of applications in regard to sexual purity – which do you most need to apply to your life and how can others support you in that?
