(Questions prepared by Tom Britting)

  1. Proverbs 3:9-10 begins with the principle of honoring the Lord with your wealth.  What does it mean to you to honor the Lord with your wealth?  Verse 10 continues that in honoring God with our wealth our barns and wine vats will be filled to overflowing.  Do you see this as a guarantee or a promise?  If not, why not?  (For a hint see Hebrews 13:5.)
  2. What is the principle taught in Proverbs 6:6-8 and 30:25?  How do these verses stand in contrast to Luke 12:16-21?
  3. Proverbs 11:24-25 describes generosity and the gains we can enjoy in having a generous heart.  How does this notion differ from the conventional world view of gain?  How do Proverbs address the world view (see Proverbs 21:13 and 28:27)?
  4. The second part of Proverbs 13:11 makes an interesting point in that wealth grows through a process of saving on a regular basis.   What is the wisdom behind this principle?  How does this principle help us in developing a sound stewardship lifestyle?  If taken to an extreme, where can this principle lead (see Proverbs 15:27)?
  5. Our society promotes the notion that we should not have to wait to fulfill our wants and needs.  If a little short on cash we have access to a wide variety of credit.  According to Proverbs 22:7 the world view of debt seems to stand in contrast to God’s view.  After reading this proverb, describe the relationship between the borrower and lender.  How much do we borrow to satisfy wants rather than needs?
  6. Proverbs 6:1-5; 11:15; 17:18 and 22:26-27 strongly advise us to not co-sign for anyone.  Why do you believe that the Proverbs take such a strong stance on this issue?  What are the risks if we should strike a pledge for another?
  7. Read Proverbs 31:10-31.  What noble characteristics do you see in the life of this person?  What lessons can we learn from the manner in which this woman administered stewardship over what the Lord provided?
  8. What areas in your personal stewardship do you believe are working well for you?  In what areas are you struggling?  How may the wisdom of Proverbs 16:3 help you in your struggles?
