Further Reflection, Discussion, and Application
  1. Review 1 Corinthians 13 – how would you summarize the message of this chapter in your own words?
  2. The things mentioned in verses 1-3 are good things that were being pursued. What did the Corinthians need to hear about these good things (what I say, know, believe, accomplish, etc.)?  If we have all these good things but do not have love, what is the result?
  3. What are the good things you are pursuing and where does love fit in all of this?  Where do verses 1-3 most challenge you?
  4. What helps you keep the priority of love in place?
  5. One of the ideas suggested in the message was that love is both action and affection (v3).  What is your reaction to this and what implication does this have for you as you pursue “having love”?
  6. A number of practical applications were mentioned as starting places (prayer, God’s word, practice, community). Which of these are you currently practicing?  Where do you need to grow?
  7. How would you rate yourself as a person of love?  (From 1-10, be honest but be fair; hopefully those around you would give a similar rating.)  Where do you hope to grow as a person of love during this series?
  8. Extra:  what other passages come to your mind which highlight the importance of love?  Take time to reflect on those.  A few examples: John 13:34,35; Romans 12:9,10; 13:8-10; 1 Cor 16:14; Gal 5:6,13; Eph 5:1,2; Col 3:14; 1 Thess 4:9,10; 1 Tim 1:5; James 2:8; 1 Peter 1:22; 1 John 4:7-21. Reflect on living in light of the consistent call to love.
