Further Reflection, Discussion, and Application
- Begin with a brief review of the whole chapter of 1 Corinthians 13 – what is the overall message? How did that relate to the people / church in Corinth? How does this overall message relate to you and SunHills?
- Love always protects (bears all things) – The same two words are used in 1 Cor. 9:12 (“put up with anything”; the sense of bears all things). Where are you challenged to bear or “put up” with things in a relationship? How is God inviting you to show love in this?
- Love always trusts (believes all things) – How is believing the best about someone an expression of love? What about when trust is broken? How does love respond then?
- Love always hopes (hopes all things) – Have you faced the temptation to give up hope … on a person or relationship? Where is the application of this phrase most relevant to your life now?
- Love always perseveres (endures all things) – Can you think of someone who has persevered / endured in loving you? What difference did that make for you? Who can you love in a way that always perseveres?
- Consider this list of four characteristics again: how do these four work together? How can you have the strength to love like this – always?
- Looking again at this text (1 Cor 13:4-7), what will you do to continue growing in love?
