Further Reflection, Discussion, and Application
- How is your time? Are you overly busy or more often bored?
- What gets the most of your time? When are you making the most of the time?
- Read / review 1 Peter 4:1-7.
- How can suffering change us (1 Peter 4:1, 2)? These verses (esp. v2) present two options – like a fork in the road. What are the two options and how would you experience / describe that fork in the road for you?
- Throughout Peter’s letter he reminds us of the reality of sufferings and hardships we may face but he consistently intertwines that with an emphasis on the sufferings of Christ (v1 here, and many other times in 1 Peter). Why? How does that make a difference to you?
- Have you experienced something like what verses 3 and 4 describe? Talk about it. Why is radical living “for the will of God” (v2) sometimes upsetting to those around you? When is that appropriate and healthy and when is it not? What perspective should we have in the midst of such encounters (v5, 6)?
- Peter says that in these times that we live, prayer is vital (v7); how important is prayer to your life? Why? What does prayer mean for you and what does it look like in your life?
- How does being clear-minded and self-controlled affect prayer? What can you do to help yourself be clear-minded and self-controlled for the sake of prayer?
- What commitment are you willing to make for greater dedication to prayer in the week(s) ahead?
