Further Reflection, Discussion, and Application
- Read 1 Peter 3:18-22, keeping in mind the section which began in 3:8.
- The section begins with the word “For” in v18. What does that “for” point us to see?
- The good news (gospel) is summarized powerfully in 1 Peter 3:18. Consider each of the phrases in this verse and then put the message into your own words. As this is personalized for us it is powerful!
- In the message we highlighted a few options for understanding 3:19, 20. What are your thoughts about these verses and why Peter wrote them?
- Some consideration of baptism (v21) - What is baptism (its meaning; feel free to use other passages in answering this)? How important is baptism? Have you been baptized? Why or why not?
- How does the example of Noah give encouragement to persevere to people like us (and those who received Peter’s letter)?
- This section ends (v22) with a reminder of Christ’s victory and reign. Why was that significant to Peter and his audience? How often do you think of these realities and what difference does this make in your life?
- This is a challenging section and it bounces to a few different areas (‘random’); what one thing will you most walk away with from this passage and study?
