Further Reflection, Discussion, and Application
- Read 1 Peter 2:11, 12. Read it multiple times – I’d suggest 3 or more.
- Some have called these verses “the pivotal passage in 1 Peter” – why do you think this is? What most catches your attention from reading these verses?
- How do these verses connect to 2:4-10? How would you summarize, in your own words, what it means to love God, love people, live the mission from this broader section of 1 Peter 2:4-12?
- The identification of ‘aliens and strangers’ reminds us of 1:1, 17. What do you think this meant for the original audience? What does it mean for us today?
- What is the warfare of v11? How are we to fight it? Where are you facing the battle and how are you doing in that regard?
- The call of verse 12 is to ‘good’ – good lives and good deeds. Where do you see this? What does it look like? Are you living the mission in this way?
- Talk about the idea of being accused for wrong in v12. Are Christians accused of doing wrong? How about you? How should we/you respond?
- The one goal over all of 1 Peter 2:11, 12 is that people would “glorify God”. In your own coming to glorify God (salvation), what role did the good lives and deeds of other Christians play in that process?
- Who is around you that might “see” and be watching your life? What kinds of things might lead them from not believing to trusting in Jesus (“glorify God”)?
- What are you doing to seek to reach them (with your life and actions)? How much is prayer a part of that?
- What one primary application will you make this week in response to 1 Peter 2:11, 12? Be specific.
