Further Reflection, Discussion, and Application
- Review 1 Peter 1:13 – 2:3.
- What do you think of when you think of “holiness”? Why do you think the common cultural views of holiness are what they are?
- How does the call to holiness (1 Peter 1:15, 16) center and focus this broader section?
- How would you describe God’s holiness? How does God’s character shape our pursuit of holiness?
- Which of the areas mentioned in 1 Peter 1:13-17 are the greatest challenge for your pursuit of holiness? Why?
- From 1:18-21: What were we redeemed from? What were we redeemed to? What were we redeemed with? How does this redemption connect to holiness?
- The theme of love is touched on in 1:22 and 2:1, from different angles? If these are the mark of your holiness, how are you doing?
- One of the other themes that dominates 1:22 – 2:3 is the ‘word of God’ (it is life producing, 1:23; it is permanent, 1:25; it speaks to us personally, 1:25; it is pure, 2:1; it prompts growth, 2:2-3). How and where are you experiencing these in your life? How often do you read/ study/ meditate on/ pray over God’s word? How might you learn from one another and encourage one another in this?
- What does it mean to ‘taste that the Lord is good’ (2:3)? Where have you done this or are you now? What does this ‘taste’ leave you with?
- Pray for one another in the pursuit of holiness and share one area where others can pray for you with a specific aspect of your pursuit of holiness?
