Further Reflection, Discussion, and Application
- Who are some of your heroes and why?
- Review 1 Peter 2:21-25. How is Christ to be our example? How does this relate to v13-20?
- What things does Peter highlight about Jesus’ example (v22, 23)? What stands out to you from these descriptions?
- Which parts of following Jesus’ example are most difficult for you?
- Review Isaiah 53. There are many connections between 1 Peter 2:21-25 and this great chapter which prophesied of Christ as the Suffering Servant. What do you note about the way Peter draws from Isaiah in reflecting on Christ’s example?
- We are not only to follow Christ’s example, we are to die to sins and live for righteousness (v24) – how is your life measured by this standard? What has this been in your life? What might it still be or need to be?
- On Sunday we noted that Christ would be a horrible example IF He were only an example. Do you agree or disagree and why?
- How does this passage show us that Christ is more than just an example? How would you describe in your own words the meaning of He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree?
- This passages uses the phrases you have been healed and you have returned to… (v24,25) – both are passive (i.e., not something that we do on our own, but that has been done for us). How can we receive these ‘good news’ truths? How fully have you embraced these realities in your own life?
- If there was one thing for you to continue to reflect upon and integrate into your life from this passage, what would that be? Will you do that? (I’d encourage it – a great way to enter the Christmas season…)
- The message noted four steps in the ‘path’ of following Christ’s example – will you take one of those steps? If so, which one?
