Further Reflection, Discussion and Application
-
How would you retell the story of Acts 3-4 to a group of kids?
- What do you think Peter and John were feeling in the face of the threats they received? What would you have done in that situation?
- Is prayer usually one of the first or one of the last things on you radar? Why?
- The prayer of Acts 4:24-30 is grounded in truths about who God is. Take time to draw out characteristics about God that you see in this prayer – why do think this was such a significant part of their prayer? What truths about God do you most often reflect on in prayer? How might you grow in praying in these ways?
- Another component of the prayer in Acts 4 is the use of Psalm 2 – using Psalms or other Scriptures as a springboard to our own prayers is very helpful. Have you done this as well? If so, talk about that. If not, I encourage you to do so – take a Psalm and read/reflect on it; then walk back through the Psalm, talking to God from what is there and what is in your heart.
- What kinds of resistance have you faced to being a witness for Jesus? Where have you attempted to be bold as a witness for Jesus? What role does prayer play in this for you? Is there someone that you could be praying for specifically? Is there an area where you need to pray for boldness (and wisdom) to be a witness of Jesus?
- What stands out to you about what happened after their prayer (Acts 4:31)?
- Back to the idea of praying for internal and spiritual values – what steps will you take this week to increasingly do this?
