Further Reflection, Discussion & Application
- What do you most associate with “Palm Sunday”? Why do you think “Palm Sunday” has had such significance in the Biblical Gospels as well as in church services (i.e., what makes this Sunday special and important)?
- Compare Matt 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-10, Luke 19:29-40 and John 12:12-19. Looking at the “Triumphal Entry” of Jesus, as it has been called, from these four different accounts, sheds light on the occasion. What most stands out to you and why?
-
What do you see in Jesus from these accounts?
- How do you think you would have felt/responded if you had been there in the crowds? Is that different from where your are at now?
- Why did He weep? What was in His heart? Does that stir anything in your heart? If so, what; if not, why?
- Matt. 23:37 is Jesus’ lament over Jerusalem just a few days after “Palm Sunday”. Jesus specifically quotes the same phrase that was shouted at His entry to Jerusalem (Ps. 118:26; cf. Matt. 21:9 and 27:39). What can we learn and apply from this pairing?
- What application will you make from this lesson/discussion?
- How are you preparing your soul for Easter?
- Are you sharing the message of “Passion Week” and Easter with anyone? Who and how?
