Further Reflection, Discussion, and Application
  1. Read and review 1 Peter 1:3-12.
  2. Peter begins with praise (blessing) to God – why? Why is this important? What are ways for you to praise/bless God (outside of Sunday morning)?
  3. Verse 4 mentions four great realities (God’s mercy, our new birth, our living hope, Jesus’ resurrection) – how do these four realities come together? What do these four realities mean to you?
  4. There is a future orientation to our hope and yet a security to it emphasized in verses 3-5. What impact do you think this had for the original audience (remember their context)? What impact does this have in your life?  How does your understanding of the future shape the way you live now (in ways that really make a difference)?
  5. What is currently testing your faith/causing you grief (see verses 6-8)?  Is it refining your faith/proving the genuineness of it?  How can others around you support you in this as well?
  6. In what ways can you identify with the experience of verses 8 and 9; in what ways do you not identify with this experience?  Talk to God honestly about this.
  7. How do verses 10-12 influence your understanding of what you have received and what the OT pointed toward?
  8. What aspects of 1 Peter 1:3-12 will most help you stand strong in the grace of God and in the hope you have?  How will you respond to what is in this passage?
