Further Reflection, Discussion and Application
  1. Review the stories of Luke 24 (v1-12, 13-35, 36-53).  How would you retell these stories, in short form, to those who have never heard them?
  2. What was the mood of the two on this walk to Emmaus (v17, 21)?  Why (v24)?
  3. What do you think of Jesus’ questions in v17 & 19?  Did he not know? Why do you think he asked this?
  4. Why did Jesus react the way he did in v25, 26?
  5. Try to walk through the OT and explain all of it “concerning” Jesus (v27, 44).
  6. Why do you think it was at the meal that the disciples were able to recognize Jesus (v16, 30, 31, 35)?
  7. How do you explain the change in mood for the disciples (from v17 to v34; cf similar change in the following setting from v37, 38 to v52, 53)?
  8. When has encountering Jesus transformed your troubles?  Where do you need to encounter Jesus in the midst of troubles you are facing now?  What difference does the resurrection of Jesus and the revelation of Jesus in the Scriptures make in your life (be specific)?
  9. What are you doing, or will you do, to pursue encountering Jesus in a personal way?
