Further Reflection, Discussion, and Application
  1. How has your level of hope been over the past week?  What has contributed to this?
  2. Review Exodus 1:1-2:10.  Imagine being an Israelite during that time; would you have any hope at all in this situation?  If so, how? (How is what you just shared reflected in your real-life circumstances today?)
  3. Reflect on the specific people mentioned in this passage: Pharaoh – the new king (1:8f); Shiphrah and Puah – the Hebrew midwives (1:15f; with their ‘fear of God’ and hope see Ps 33:18; 147:11); the mother of Moses (2:1f); Moses’ sister (2:4f); Pharaoh’s daughter (2:5f).  For each, describe their hope and what it led them to do (i.e. where was their hope? What were they hoping for? What were they thinking/feeling? Who were they hoping in? What did their hope lead them to do?)
  4. What can you apply from the lessons in these examples of hope?
  5. Hope in God leads us to bring hope to the unprotected?  Where have you had the privilege of doing this?  Where is your heart tugged for the unprotected and how could your hope bring them hope?
  6. Pray for the strengthening of hope with one another and among those who are unprotected.
