Further Reflection, Discussion, and Application
- Read again the parables of the treasure and the pearl (Matthew 13:44-46).
- How do these parables relate to Jesus’ other teaching on the “the kingdom of heaven” in Matthew 13? How do these short parables further Christ’s teaching on the “kingdom of heaven”?
- Can you think of a current – or even better, a personal – example of finding something so valuable that you are willing to give up other things to have it?
- It was said on Sunday that the kingdom of heaven is not something to be bought. Do you agree or not (see Matt 5:3; Mark 10:15; Luke 12:32; etc.)?
- How should the value of the kingdom be worked out in our lives? See Paul’s example from Phil 3:7, 8…
- How is the kingdom of heaven like a treasure or pearl of great value to you personally? What evidence from your life shows that?
- What could you do to increase your “joy” (v44) in the value of the kingdom? What could you do to increasingly express the value of the kingdom in your life?
