Father's Day
Further Reflection, Discussion and Application
- Today’s message pointed out that the foundation for a healthy family is for a man to leave his father and his mother and cleave to (be joined to) his wife. What does “leave his father and mother” mean?
- What have you done in the last seven days to cleave to your spouse?
- What are two things you will do in the next seven days to cleave to your spouse?
- If you have children, how would they describe their parents’ relationship?
- Name specific things your kids are learning about marriage from observing your marriage.
- Today’s message discussed priorities (remember the irresponsible game boy?) What’s your game? Sports? Work? Television? Friends? Cars? Ministry? What priority does your game place in your life? Would you say you are in balance or out of balance? How would your kids answer that question about the priority your “game” has in your life? How would your spouse answer that same question about you?
- Read Ephesians 5: 21-6:4. In your own words, how does this passage describe family relationships? (Hint: verse 21 is the key).
- Today’s speaker said the #1 lesson from his experiences as a father that he could pass along to others is the value of admitting when he is wrong and asking his children for forgiveness. Evaluate yourself in this regard. How would your kids describe your ability to ask their forgiveness? How would your spouse describe your ability to ask for forgiveness?
- Today’s message was delivered on Father’s Day. How would you describe your relationship with your Heavenly Father?
- If you are a parent, what are your kids learning about God from you?
