Further Reflection, Discussion, and Application
  1. Read Hebrews 12:1-3. The imagery here is athletic (run… the race); how would you describe the tone of this passage?
  2. The main idea in this section is let us run with perseverance… not grow weary and lose heart. When have you had to push through with perseverance? What does this mean for us spiritually?
  3. How does the great cloud of witnesses (Heb 11) encourage you to run the race of faith?
  4. What are things that hinder or weigh you down (12:1) – things that may not necessarily be sin but that keep you from running as effectively as you could in the life of faith? What would it mean for you to practically throw off or lay aside those things? What is holding you back from doing so?
  5. The sin which so easily entangles (v1) is likely a reference specifically to the sin of unbelief or doubting God – where do you most struggle to fully trust God and how does Hebrews 11 and 12 call you to address that?
  6. The focus of fixing our eyes on Jesus is crucially important. What do you need to turn your eyes away from in order to focus on Jesus? What helps you to fix your eyes on him? What will you do – even this week leading up to Easter – to do just that?
  7. Take time to fix your eyes on Jesus – reflect on / discuss each of those phrases about Jesus in Hebrews 12:2, 3.
  8. What impact does focusing on Jesus have in your heart? How will that help you to run with perseverance… not grow weary and lose heart in the life of faith?
