Further Reflection, Discussion, and Application
- What do you think of when you hear the word, ‘mission’? How does that relate to what we see in Acts about the church on mission?
- Can you recite the Great Commission (Mt 28:18-20)? Can you recite Acts 1:8 (the theme of the book)? More importantly, how is your life “reciting” (living out) Jesus’ words in these verses?
- Explain how each of us as a believer is involved with Jesus’ directions in Acts1:8?
- Where does the power come from to witness for Jesus? How do we get this power?
- What struggles and challenges have you had in being a witness and being ‘on mission’? How does God’s grace and the Spirit’s empowering help you in this? How can others in the body of Christ help in this?
- How can we become more spiritually sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit? (Consider what we see of this in Acts, chapter 13 just being one example.) How can we become more sensitive to the needs of others? How can these two be brought together?
- Why were Paul and the others so motivated in mission? What do you think they saw as the reasons and benefits of this role?
- How do the examples of mission help or challenge you? What is your part in God’s mission? How are you seeking to fulfill that?
- Much of the book of Acts, and these last few weeks, has consistently focused us outward – reaching out to others. Who will you reach out to in the weeks ahead and how will you do this?
