Further Reflection, Discussion, and Application
  1. What is compassion?  How do you see that displayed today?  Is it more than just the random act of kindness?
  2. Have you ever been in a situation where you just didn’t know how to comfort someone experiencing significant grief?  What can you do?
  3. Are we capable of comfort?  Where does comfort come from?  Does comfort mean we try to fix the problem or offer suggestions to correct someone else?  (See 2 Cor 1:3-7.)
  4. Look at Acts 2:42-47. How were the actions and sentiment of the people compassionate in this setting?  What was their focus?
  5. What do you think of when you hear the word “commune”?  Hippies, visiting, fellowship, socialism, a very tolerant society?
  6. What was the community like for the early church?  What were the believers facing?  What did they value?
  7. Look at Acts 4:32-37.  What does it mean to be in one heart and one mind?  In order to know of a need, wouldn’t someone have to be vulnerable?  What prevents you from being vulnerable with other believers?
  8. Look at Acts 6:1-7.  How does this story show compassion?  Who was compassionate?  Is priority setting compassionate?  What do we do if they seem to conflict?
  9. Look at Acts 11:27-30. What are some specific components of compassion?  Is it just meeting obvious needs?  What was the attitude of the believers in this story
  10. What one main thing will you take away on this theme of compassion in Acts? What will you do about it; how will you apply it?
