Further Reflection, Discussion, and Application
  1. Read through what Peter said to the crowd in Acts 2:14-41.
  2. How does Peter explain what had happened at Pentecost (v14-21)? To whom is God’s Spirit poured out and why is this significant?
  3. How does v21 make a transition to what follows as Peter’s central focus?
  4. Why is there so much focus on Jesus’ death and resurrection (here and elsewhere in Acts – see 3:13-16; 4:10-12,33; 5:30-32,42; 13:28-31; 26:18,23; 28:31; etc.)?  Is this more or different than your focus on these events?
  5. Who is responsible for Jesus’ death?  (Compare 2:23 with 4:27, 28.) Why did Jesus have to die and be raised? (See Rom 3:9-26; 5:12-21; 1 Cor 15:1-11; Heb 9:11-28.)
  6. How would you summarize ‘the gospel’ (good news) in your own words?  How central is Jesus’ death and resurrection to the good news to us?  How is Jesus’ death and resurrection central to your own life?
  7. What does ‘repentance’ mean (v38)?  What is the difference between regret and repentance?  What is the result of repentance?  How do repentance and faith/belief go together (see 10:43; 16:30, 31; 20:21)?
  8. Baptism is also mentioned (v38, 41) and is very important in the book of Acts.  What do you think baptism is and why is it significant?  Have you been baptized?  If not, what is holding you back?
  9. What application could you make in living (see Gal 2:14) or sharing the good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection?
