Be the Church

Be the Church is an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community as we work together to serve and meet real physical needs in the lives of those around us.

Every August, we cancel our services for a Sunday and devote that day to serving at various projects in our community.

Our Be the Church Sunday for 2011 was on  August 14.  It was an amazing day of outreach and we hope it will spur continuing involvement in our community.  Click here to see a list of our projects.

We also have on-going projects throughout the year - some of those are listed below.  If you would like to get involved or receive more information, please contact one of the project coordinators.

Dovetail Ministry

Contact: Katie Chaney, .

  • Each month, Dovetail Ministry collects a different item for the homeless in El Dorado County. For January, we are collecting mittens, gloves, scarves and beanies.  These items may be dropped off on Sundays in the basket in the lobby through January.  (Please do NOT put these items in the big blue barrel.)
  • You may also bring clothing donations for distribution at Green Valley Community Church and place them in the blue barrel in the children's ministry hallway.
  • Saturday Cafe at GVCC - Once a month, Dovetail serves breakfast to those in need at Green Valley Community Church in Placerville.  If you would like to serve at the Cafe, contact Katie Chaney.

Twin Lakes Food Bank

Contact:

SunHills actively supports Twin Lakes Food Bank with canned food drives and volunteerism.  You can be involved by donating canned food and assisting with canned food sorting, seasonal food distributions, and the Twin Lakes clothes closet.  Approximately 70% of all food given out is from food donations, so any donation, big or small, is appreciated.  For more info, please see www.twinlakesfoodbank.org.

Folsom Convalescent Home

Contact:  Kathy Moore,

The Folsom Convalescent Home has a variety of ministry opportunities available to those who have an appreciation and respect for our senior generation.  Leviticus 19:32 says, "Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God.  I am the Lord."  The ministry opportunities available fit into almost any schedule, whether on a weekday, evening or on an occasional Sunday morning.

5th Sunday Service – SunHills has volunteered to lead their 9:30-10:30 Sunday morning service for each month that has a 5th Sunday.  At each service, we need a team of 4 volunteers:  one to provide a brief message, one to lead in music, and two to assist with page turning during music time and relating the residents' prayer requests at prayer time.

El Dorado Hills Senior Care Facility

Contact Becky Richard,

Craft volunteers assist approximately 10 senior residents with a craft project and visiting and growing relationships with them.  We are looking for a craft leader to decide upon a craft idea and organize supplies.  There is also an opportunity for people who cannot volunteer during the week to prepare craft supplies in advance.
