Stand Strong – 1 Peter

The study in 1 Peter has been ministering to us (me included) – giving comfort, courage, direction, and more.  Thanks for the ways you have been sharing and living out of what God says to us in this timely book.  The next three weeks – Nov 1, 8 and 15 – will give focus and application to what it means for us to pursue loving God, loving people, and living the mission.  (These three important messages build off what we looked at last Sunday in 1 Peter 2:4-10; if you missed it you can find it here:   http://www.sunhills.org/sermon/stand-strong-on-the-cornerstone/.

We’ll continue in 1 Peter through the end of November and then get into a Christmas series in December.  We’ll come back to 1 Peter in January 2010.

Thanksgiving

Since being thankful is such a huge part of what it means to be connected to God in the way He’s designed us … we like to celebrate Thanksgiving in a special way at SHCC.

We’ll be meeting Sunday night, November 22 at 5 pm for a Thanksgiving service followed by a pie social.  In the service, we’ll focus on what we’re thankful for, have a time of praise, and celebrate the whole concept in a creative way.   It’s one big service … so come early and find a seat!

Thank you!

There are so many of you who serve in and around SunHills – thank you!  Really, thank you … I can’t count all the ways that people serve – ministry with children and students, greeting and welcoming and hospitality, setting up and tearing down and cleaning out, sound and technical service, campus care for building and grounds, office/administrative service, personal ministry with people in small groups, coordinating service opportunities, prayer, leadership service from staff, elders and directors, etc. (the list could go on for pages).  I know that I don’t see all the ways that people serve, but God does (which is all that matters anyway).  Each of these acts of service contribute to our “being built” into the kind of church that God intends (1 Peter 2:4-10).  Your acts of service are significant and are appreciated – thank you!

If you are reading this and are not serving somewhere, don’t think ‘they’ve got it all covered’; there are plenty of needs and opportunities for on-going service.  It would be great to have you begin using your gifts and talents to serve and encourage the SunHills family… and I trust it would be good for you as well.   So if you’d like to get involved, please let us know.

Budget

2009 – We are thankful for the faithful and generous partnership that you engage in as an act of worship in the cause of God’s Kingdom purposes.  Thank you.

2010 – The BOD (Board of Directors) has been working diligently on the 2010 budget.  We are seeking to maximize ministry while being as prudent as possible.  We plan to have the budget out by the middle of November, and then we will have opportunity for interaction and will likely have the approval of the 2010 budget in early December.  As always, if you have specific questions feel free to interact with the BOD about these matters.

India

We are building a partnership between KEA (Karnataka Evangelistic Association, a church-planting and mission movement in India, led by nationals) and us (SHCC). We’ve highlighted aspects of our September trip with a few previous follow-ups.  Here are two more:

  • Our fellow believers there could really use our prayers.  One of the locations where KEA is ministering is facing considerable difficulty in some power struggles that have even resulted in threats to disrupt KEA leadership and individuals.  Pray for wisdom and courage for the leaders of KEA (Devanand and others; I am so thankful to see the ways he is serving and leading in these difficult times); and also pray for a change in heart of those who are disrupting the work, as well as for the witness of the Christian community there.  Thanks!  By the way, these brothers and sisters in Christ are praying for us too!
  • This Sunday I’ll mention an exciting/practical way we can share love with them as we approach the Christmas season…
