SunHills May Update
- Dan Haakenson
- May 5, 2010
I’ll keep this month’s update to a few important highlight areas:
WORSHIP
Our worship teams have been doing an awesome job! Thank you to all who serve in this important area (musicians, singers, sound and tech crew, etc.). Worship is more than just singing and it is more than just on Sunday; it is essential to who we are and what it means for us to love God. Coming together on Sunday to express and deepen that adoration for God is a joyful privilege. I’m glad for us to be able to sing together and am thankful for those who are helping to facilitate that for us!
We are continuing in the search for the next person who will lead our worship ministries. Our team has had some good interactions about clarifying what we are looking for and how we will move through the process. (The search team includes Braden Lyle, Jeremy Owens, Jackie Adams, Jo Sullivan, Erin Clay, Dan and Terri Richards, and Michelle and I). We are receiving and reviewing applicants and are beginning conversations with prospective candidates. We’ll keep you posted as things develop…
In addition, thank you to all the others who serve on Sundays under the heading of our worship ministries: floor directors, ushers, greeters, hospitality servants, etc. We appreciate you!

PRODIGAL GOD
The story that Jesus told in Luke 15:11-32 so powerfully speaks to us. This series has been generating good discussions and I am thankful for that. Especially encouraging are the small group interactions. The impact of coming together to share about what we are learning, and what God is doing in our own lives, is tremendous.
We have also seen as a church family, in the last month or so, the crucial importance of these personal connections with friends that we walk together in the journey of following Jesus. Seeing the body of Christ show love and support and care is both beautiful and powerful. My prayer is that we continue to extend and deepen these relationships…
A reminder from last week: if you have not already, I encourage you take 30 minutes or so for personal prayer and journaling on the truth from Luke 15 that “the love of the Father is a gift of grace.” I hope you will do so; and I’d even love to hear how it goes….
This Sunday (May 9) we will focus our attention directly on the elder brother. This is an important week for us – individually (me too) and us together as a church family. Don’t miss as we see the loving challenge that Jesus gives to ‘elder brother’ types.
And for those of you eager to look ahead: we will finish The Prodigal God series on May 23. On May 30 we will have a special guest speaker and then in June, we will begin a series in the Proverbs on wisdom for living…
