LOVE

Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.  1 Corinthians 13:13

It has been good for us to be in a series about love and for us to be growing as people of love … people who love well.  I know many of you have memorized 1 Cor 13:4-7 – that is great!  We’ll continue in this series through Mar 20, and on Mar 27 we begin our series on Faith – I’m looking forward to that as well.

One of the specific ways we can demonstrate love is to reach out to new people among us.  We have had a number of new guests over the past few weeks … look for an opportunity to introduce yourself and get to know someone new.

WORSHIP

A few weeks ago Clint Davenport was here as a guest worship leader.  He will be back this Sunday to lead us again. Clint is the candidate for full-time Director of Worship and Church Life.  He has interviewed with our Worship Search Team and also with our Elders.  We are excited about what is ahead as we move toward this partnership.

We also want to acknowledge Braden and show our appreciation for the excellent job he has been doing leading worship for us these past few months.  We are also thankful for the many people who make up our worship ministry teams – from musicians to tech people to our floor directors.  By serving with their skills and talents, they are a blessing to all of us.

MEXICO

The 2011 Mexico Mission is getting closer – training begins this weekend (Sundays from 1-2:30 pm from Mar 6 through Apr 10).  Please be praying for our team as they prepare and for our ministry partners in Ensenada.

Financial support is an important part of our role as a church for a mission like this.  There are envelopes available in the auditorium if you would like to contribute toward the cost of this trip.  All donations are tax deductible as long as they are not designated for a specific individual.  At this point we still need roughly $5,000 to cover the expenses of this outreach.

WOMEN’S SPRING CONFERENCE

The WOW (Women of Worth) Spring Conference will be held on Saturday, Mar 26, at the Holiday Inn Express in EDH.  This one-day event is from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm and includes a guest speaker, video, a catered lunch, and a purse and jewelry boutique.  The theme is “Mind, Body and Soul” and tickets are available on Sundays between services.  For more information, contact

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY EVENTS

We have two Friday evening events for our elementary-age kids this month.  For more info, contact .

THANK YOU!

There are a number of specific reasons to say “thank you”:

  • We had a great night of volunteer appreciation at our Made to Love event on Feb 26. Thank you to all of you who serve as a part of the SunHills family! And thanks to Jo Beijer for her diligence and grace in coordinating and putting on this evening!
  • Thank you to those of you who have generously participated in opportunities like the Baby Bottle Campaign and our recent Dovetail Ministry collections.  These are just a few of the ways we are able to continue to ‘Be the Church’ throughout the year.

FINANCE

Thank you for your generosity in faithful giving! These funds are not just about meeting a budget number but are about touching lives through ministry – in the support of local outreach ministries in our community, support of missionary endeavors like Mexico and our Hosamane Project, the support of staff and programs here, and much more.  Again, to those of you who are regularly, faithfully, and generously giving – thank you for your participation in the gospel in this way (Phil 1:5; 4:15).

EASTER

Even though Easter falls late this year (Apr 24), it will be here before we know it.  In a staff meeting just this week we were talking about Easter and our preparations for it.  Be praying about people that you may want invite at that time (or now!!).

One other pre-Easter note:   Lent begins on Mar 9 - it has been observed by many Christians as a way to prepare for Easter.  Lent is the 40-day period before Easter and represents the 40 days that Jesus spent in the desert, where He endured temptation before he began His public ministry.  One way to observe Lent is to fast or to give up an activity during this 40-day period as a way to spiritually prepare for Easter.

SPRING CLEAN

Save the date!  Saturday, Apr 2, will be a spring-clean day at the church.  Plan to join us for cleaning, yard work, light maintenance, and sprucing up our campus – more details will be announced soon.

With Joy - dan
