MISSION HIGHLIGHT
We are gearing up for Be the Church (BTC) on Sunday, Aug 14 – a day of loving and serving our community by meeting real physical needs in the lives of those around us. We will not have regular services that morning but will meet briefly and then be sent out for various projects, including light construction, painting, and visiting with seniors. More information about our projects will be announced this month. For questions about BTC, contact Tim Kesselring, .
Our June mission highlight was the Kenya team. Thanks for your prayers for them. If you missed their time of sharing from our July 3 services, you can listen or download from this site. (Click on the "More Messages" link to the right.) One of the things that Mat Craig shared was a project called “Love in Action”, a challenge to spend only $2/day on food for 2 weeks. The purpose is to try to identify with the millions in this world that are forced to live each day on this amount or less and then to donate the amount saved to helping those less fortunate. For more information about this project, visit http://www.empoweringlives.org/action or contact .
STUDENT MINISTRIES
We have lots of exciting things happening in student ministries this month:
Synergy (this Friday, July 8, 7-9 pm at The Block at Lakeside Church in Folsom) -- This is an event planned and organized by students from SunHills. Its intent is to encourage, inspire, and unify high school students from all different churches in our community. Worship is by The Reel and speakers are Ryan Anderson of the Orlando Magic and author/speaker Josh Riebock. Cost is $5 at the door. All high school students are invited!
Hume Lake (July 17-24) -- Middle school and high school students are getting ready for their week at Hume. Students will travel to and from camp by charter bus. Packing lists, details about final balances, and other last-minute details will be communicated to parents within the next week.
Kalithea Park – Due to our renovations at the church, for the month of July the high school students will meet on Tuesday nights at Kalithea Park in EDH from 7-9 pm.
High School Ministry – Our volunteer leaders continue to provide strong leadership while we are in the search process for a Director of High School Ministry. Until that position is filled, Jason Wetsel is coordinating our high-school-leadership team. If you have any questions, please contact him at .
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY
We finished up Summer Blast on June 24. Thank you to Jill Vogel and the many volunteers who helped to make it a great week for the kids and for our church family.
We are in need of help with our nursery and preschool classes on Sunday mornings, especially second service. Would you consider serving once a month with these great kids? Please contact Jill Vogel, , if you would like to be a part of our children’s ministry.
RENOVATION PROJECT
You may have noticed improvements starting to happen around our church. We’ve begun our summer renovation project and you’ll continue to see changes over the next 6 weeks or so. The overview of this project was announced during our services on June 26; more information about what, how, and why we are doing this is available here. In short, we have been in our building for 14 years and we needed to increase the effectiveness of our space to meet current and future ministry needs with the ultimate goal of reaching more people.
In the next couple weeks, we will need help with moving furnishings around the church as various aspects of the construction move forward. If you are able to help with moving on any of the following dates – July 10, July 16, July 24, and July 30 – please contact .
FINANCES
Overall, we are in a good financial position. As we noted in the Renovation Project communication, this is a reason to give thanks. First and foremost we give thanks to God for this grace. Financially, blessings are not the most important thing but they are a good gift from God and we joyfully thank Him. This is also a time to say “thank you” to you – the church family of SunHills. You have been faithful and generous in giving, and that’s a great indication of your honoring the Lord and your support of the ministry and mission of SunHills. Thank you! Your continued faithfulness in giving is a crucial part of where we are and how we will move forward. Thank you for your on-going partnership in the ministry through giving! Our thanks also goes out to the Board of Directors (BOD) for their wise and godly stewardship. This group of 4 volunteers has an important role in the leadership of SunHills as it oversees financial and facility matters. We are blessed as a church by the diligent servant leadership of these volunteers.
SHAPED BY STORIES
This month we will continue in the parables – simple yet powerful stories from Jesus that are intended to shape us. This Sunday we’ll look at how Jesus spoke to the issue of money and generosity from Luke 16. Later this month we’ll be shaped by Jesus’ stories about prayer (July 17), humility (July 24), and compassion (July 31).
