WORSHIP

In July, you probably noticed we had several talented guests leading worship for us.  As a search team we are continuing to pray about and consider prospective candidates.  Heading into August we will have Braden Lyle serving as an Interim Worship Coordinator – to keep up the scheduling, assist the worship department, lead worship (along with others), and more. We are thankful for his talent and for his willingness to provide leadership during this interim period.

As we continue to walk the road of the search and interim, I’m grateful for the ways that so many of you have been keeping the focus on the One who is deserving of all our worship.  It is a joy and privilege to come together and express our love for God through song.

STUDENT MINISTRIES

We’ve obviously had a significant change in student ministries leadership.  As we have communicated verbally and in writing, the Elders, Directors, and I are willing to talk with you if you have questions.  In a time like this it is important that we communicate in Eph 4:15/29 ways.

There are a great group of volunteer leaders currently serving in middle-school and high-school ministries. We have charted a plan for them to cover the month of August – they have some fun things planned for students.  We are continuing to pray and work out the details of our leadership plan beyond August and will get more of an update to you on this soon.

FINANCE

As we saw in the Proverbs, giving is a way to be wise and honor the Lord with money; thanks to those of you who faithfully do so.  Moving toward the fall, it is important that we stay on track with our budget.  Note that no formal offering will be taken on BTC Sunday (Aug 15), but our locked boxes are always available at the back of the auditorium for tithes and offerings.

LIVE THE MISSION

BTC – it’s almost here!  Be the Church (BTC) is August 15.  This is our day to forego regular church services and, instead, serve God by serving those in our community.  There are no regular services that day.  We will have a brief gathering at 9:00 on that Sunday morning for prayer and worship before we are sent out to serve at our projects.  And if you have not already signed up, please check the project lists in the lobby.  There is a place for anyone who would like to be involved – from light construction to gardening to visiting with seniors to childcare.  Don’t miss it!

At 6:00 that evening, plan to come back to SunHills for a potluck dinner.  It will be an evening of worship and of sharing and celebration about the day.  You can sign up in the church lobby on Sunday to bring either a main dish, side item, or salad.  (All other items will be provided.)

AUGUST EVENTS

Aug 18 – WOW Summer Book Discussion.  Ladies, please join us Wednesday, Aug 18 from 6:45–8:00 pm on the church campus for a book discussion about Spiritual Arts – Mastering the Disciplines for a Rich Spiritual Life by Jill Briscoe.  The evening will be facilitated by Joanne Kraft and refreshments will be provided.   You may sign up in the lobby on Sunday.  For more information, contact Jackie Adams,

Aug 20 – Edge 45@Night.  4th and 5th graders are invited to a pizza and pool party at the Vogels’ on Friday, Aug 20 from 7-9 pm.  They will be making their own pizzas so bring a favorite topping to share.  For more information or for directions to the Vogels’, contact .

FALL EVENT

We’re in the planning stages for an all-church weekend afternoon event in September (either the 18th or 19th).  More information will be coming very soon, but for now make a note for a SunHills church family event that weekend.

NEW MESSAGE SERIES

On Aug 22 we will begin a new series for the fall. We will be looking at themes from the book of Acts – what we, as a church, are here for.  I’m excited about this series - I think it will be timely and shaping in positive and productive ways.

This coming Sunday, Aug 8, we hope you join us as Andy Bernard will speak to us about Unstoppable Grace.  Andy is a friend from a previous church and currently a pastor at a church in Fairfield.  We will also have Ryan Jones with us again leading music.

Last Sunday, Aug 1, we were encouraged by a heartfelt message from Jackie Adams in which she shared her testimony about trusting God and His faithfulness in her life.  If you missed it, you can listen to or download the message by clicking on the messages link to the right.

GREAT THINGS

There have been some obvious hardships that we have walked through in the past month but through these things God is continuing to do great things among us.  I’ve loved hearing some of the stories from the women’s retreat; about the amazing spiritual impact on students at Hume; encouraging stories of people who have stepped out in ‘being wise’ by living out the Proverbs; some great connections for people making new friends at SunHills; words from some who are just beginning a vibrant spiritual journey with Jesus; some who are preparing to head off into ministry and missions opportunities; and so much more as we continue to love God, love people, and live the mission
